The Photosmart R707 is a new camera from HP looks and feels nothing like previous models, it's clean and classy with modern lines and design touches, a very appealing design. The camera has a five megapixel sensor, three times optical zoom lens and a range of unique in-camera features such as Adaptive Lighting Technology (digital 'dodge & burn' / digital flash) and red-eye removal in playback mode. With a very attractive US street price of $349 the R707 could be one of the dark horses of PMA.

Marketed to the novice, the HP Photosmart R717 compact camera boasts some strong qualities, including helpful information on many of the menu screens and fairly speedy recycle times. Unfortunately, HP's first foray into the 6-megapixel market just doesn't generate top-notch picture quality.

Hewlett-Packard's CMOS-based HP Pocket Camera ($170 street) is a simple plug-and-play digital camera that snaps onto HP Jornada 520- and 540-series Pocket PCs. The Pocket Camera's versatile Pocket PC application comprehensively supports reviewing and sharing of captured images. But the excellent software can't compensate for the camera's relatively low 640-by-480 optical resolution. Still, the Pocket Camera is a convenient accessory for capturing and sharing decent-quality photos using your Jornada.
The 1-ounce Pocket Camera adds a mere 1 by 2.3 by 0.9 inches (HWD) to a Jornada's footprint.
