Many agrees that Leica makes some of the world's best 35-mm cameras, and that its Summicron lenses are among the finest optics ever created. The Panasonic Lumix DMC-LC5 ($850 street) is one of the first digital still cameras to sport the f2.0, 7- to 21-mm zoom DC Vario-Summicron lens. This 4-megapixel digital camera, essentially the same as the $950 Leica Digilux 1, is versatile, feature-rich, and fast-shooting. Unfortunately, it doesn't deliver the stellar image quality associated with lenses bearing the Summicron name.
